Choosing Your Wedding Theme

What would you like your wedding to look like? Your wedding theme doesn’t have to be hugely elaborate, but let’s face it – this is one of the most important days of your life, so you can have whatever theme, style and look you want.

For some couples, choosing a wedding theme is a piece of cake, but if you are still trying to decide, here are some ideas to get you going.

1. Summer Wedding Theme

A summer wedding is traditional and it brings with it all the benefits of great weather. If you are having your wedding in the summer, why not incorporate a summery theme too? Summer is the best time of the year for flowers, so decide on a colour scheme (purple and white, for example) and make sure you have plenty of flowers everywhere to match that scheme. Serve seasonal foods and white or rose wine, and maybe hire a band to play outdoors. If you are planning the wedding yourself, go to a florist to get advice about the best seasonal flowers to include!

2. Spring/Autumn/Winter Wedding Themes

Summer isn’t the only season for weddings! Autumn lends itself well to rich, warm colour schemes involving deep reds, oranges and gold – while spring is excellent for greens, blues and pastels. For a winter wedding, deep burgundies and glistening silvers work really well. And why not decorate the cake with snowmen made from icing and serve hot spiced wine!

3. Musical Wedding Theme

If you enjoy music, you can centre your wedding theme around that. Hire a band, or a number of solo players, and have a variety of music played throughout the day. You can arrange the tables at your reception around a stage, so that gentle music can be played while you eat, or have a choir sing throughout your service.

4. Boat Wedding Theme

A wedding on a boat can be fantastically romantic, so long as the boat isn’t too rocky! You don’t want anyone getting seasick. You could watch the sunset over the water while you exchange vows and then have fireworks as the party gets under way.

5. Other Themes

Whatever your great love is, and however unusual it might be, you can certainly base your wedding around it. As long as both partners are equally keen (remember that it’s a special day for both the bride and the groom!) you can base your wedding on literally any theme. Western weddings with ten gallon hats and horses, weddings in the colours of a sports team, even weddings where the bridal party dresses up as aliens – they have all been done. Base your wedding on something both you and your partner love to create a day that is personalised just for you!

Your wedding theme can be anything that fits within your budget, but try to choose something that you will always be able to look back on and think, “Yes. That was my wedding day. It was just perfect.” If you choose a theme based on something you dig just at the moment, you may find that you regret it like a bad tattoo in the future. So make sure you choose a theme that’s going to seem special forever.

Any good ideas for a black and white wedding theme?

I am planning a black and white wedding for September of next year. I know I want my bridesmaids wearing black dresses and am thinking about using little bits of red and/or silver for accents. Any ideas for flowers, groomsmen’s tuxes, or reception decor?

If you are doing such a classic color scheme (white and black). Add an equally dramatic and elegant color. I’d do black bridesmaid’s dresses. For the bridesmaid’s bouquets, I’d have big all-white rose bouquets. For your bouquet, have a large all-crimson red rose bouquet. I think the contrasts in colors will be amazing. The red against your dress and the white against the black. It will be so bold and really gorgeous, but in a good way.

For the guys, have them wear classic black tuxes or suits. Have black vests and Crimson red ties. Each groomsmen gets a single white rose for their tux. The groom gets a red Crimson one.

Needing Ideas for a western theme wedding vows?

We are having a very simple western church wedding. I am wanting any and all ideas for vows in a western theme. Websites or any vows any one has written with a western them to them is welcome. Thanks in advance.

You’re having a western themed wedding?!? I’m excited because I did too! When we had ours, we just did the traditional vows the preacher does. Personally, I thought talking in southern drawls and yelling "Yee-Haw!" after the kiss was a bit too western but that’s all up to you. I would just write what you feel. Even though it may not be totally western, it’s exactly what your groom wants to hear. If you need any ideas/planning tips, I’d be so happy to help you out, btw. I’m learning to become a wedding planner, weddings make me so happy and I think it’s sad you only get one. LOL. Good luck to both of you!!

Any idea on a star gazer lily wedding theme?

Since I chose magenta and gold as my wedding colors I am having a hard time incorporating these to Starry Theme. So I opt for star gazer lilies… any idea how can I make this more lively?

Have you asked if your florist can use Starfighter lillies instead? They are a much darker magenta color. They are gorgeous (They were one of our wedding flowers).
Utilize gold star confetti on the tables spread around perhaps a candle in a hurricane lamp (They sell mosaic glass hurricane lamps or perhaps lanterns that have stars punched into the metal?), so that will add a lot of sparkle to your tables…
and what about using the thin gold wire star ‘garland’ they sell for decorating presents, and using a bit of that to wrap around each napkin at the tables?
You could also incorporate a shooting star as a logo for your wedding-very simple, but if it is quietly placed on your save the dates, programs, invitations, and place cards, it will start to stand out as a symbol for your whole day.
if you did decide to go with a favor, you could use little star-shaped hard candies or little star cookies wrapped in tulle and secured with the star garland too…

the theme of my wedding is a spanish theme wedding (spain) and the color are scarlet red with gold accents

I would go with dark red roses and tie the bouquets with gold ribbons.

What type of flowers go well with a pale lavender, pearl and gold wedding theme?

We’re Australian, so planning on getting married in 2010′s fall, or 2010 – 2011′s summer (in December or January or February). Thanks for your suggestions – all of them are helpful and gorgeous too.

For center pieces of bouquets?
If it’s for you bouquets you can have the florist dye Roses
light lavender, you can mix them with the white ones.
Your florist can dye almost any flower, so go with white and lavender. For the center pieces.
