You could do a cross between a Victorian and spring theme. Victorian incorporates a lot of flowers, lace and romance. Here are some pics that may give you some inspiration.

Use Tussie Mussie's as your bouquet holders:

Themes can be a colour or variations of a colour or two, a flower, a word or like you said a season (spring).. or historical time or common interest of the bride & groom (like skiing).

I know, it's every girl's dream to have the best wedding ever... something different and memorable... I've noticed that this is achieved by personalizing the ceremony, the location or the traditions you use at the reception.

Just keep it simple and don't worry so much about it being all 'matchy'... You'll end up worrying about little things that will take up too much of your time & energy.

Can you utilize something interesting from the 1850's home? Like an oil lamp or tree or wall colour or architectural detail that can be woven into your wedding? Something in the garden? Use your surroundings don't fight it.

Maybe pick your favourite spring flower... like a pink tulip.. your bridesmaids can have different shades of pink (that individually they love & suits them AND can wear the dress again...three different dresses along the same style influence)
(Be careful with aqua... it's nice as an accent with the right complimentary colour.)
Your cake can have tulips on it.
Your invitations can be neutral with a pink tulip on it.

I got married in April too. We did an earthy/ spring/ garden/ fresh/ 'joyful' combination.... we kept it simple and used an muted sage or light olive green and light taupe as an undercurrent to our chosen flowers...
Our guests remarked how comfortable, relaxed and elegant the banquet hall was..
My main objective was to have it "nice", unassuming and comfortable.... I felt we achieved it.

I just thought I'm not Oprah or Martha so why stress out trying?

Good luck and relax!
